A lovely heartwarming story of love, friendship and a good sense of humour. The story is mostly set around Christmas but obviously can be read at any time - I read it on holiday in the sun and it didn't distract from the story at all. The main character, Connie, realises that her marriage is coming to an end, and it certainly does when her husband moves out and sets up home with another woman. Written alternately from the viewpoint of various family members, including Connie's grown up children, we get an insight

into the thoughts and perspective of the family breakup. It's most definitely not a sad or melancholy story, on the contrary, once Connie makes the decision to go to France for Christmas there is a feeling of optimism and adventure. Mix Connie with Max, add a little Christmas spirit and hey presto - a loving relationship buds and blooms. The only spanner in the works is that all the family Connie tried to leave to have a Christmas on their own, suddenly turn up on her busy loved-up doorstep! Patricia Dixon writes in a beautiful, fluid flowing style and her characters have a real feel to them, as though they are already your friends. She gives a good background to the chacacters' personalities and the storyline is well plotted with no loose ends. The story does have a tie-in with her previous books and any earlier readers will smile at the slight ghostly element near the end but it is a totally stand-alone novel and it's not necessary to have read her earlier books. A great, friendly uplifting read and not just for Christmas - can thoroughly recommend.
